Chesterfield Montessori School

Family Involvement

CMS encourages parents and caregivers to join our collaborative community and take part in activities, events, and meetings. These opportunities are offered throughout the year and provide a groundwork for experience and knowledge sharing, as well as enable parents to keep updated about their kids’ endeavors and achievements.

Opportunities for Parents & Families to get Involved

Montessori evenings

These evenings offer parents an opportunity for parents to learn about the Montessori method of teaching from our own teachers as well as from national and international experts in the field.

Coffee Socials

These bi-monthly, informal events include discussion of Montessori education, and, occasionally, an actual demonstration of lessons and materials by the children.

Montessori moments

Parents are invited to join us for these informational meetings covering a wide range of themes, from “Alternatives to Praise and Punishment,” to “What to expect in your child’s next developmental stage.”

Parent social committee

The Parent Social Committee is a group for parents to meet and socialize with other parents. The PSC also helps with school events, such as the International Festival and CMS Night at the Magic House. All are welcome to attend any of the many PSC meetings throughout the year.

Yearbook committee

Our wonderful Parent Yearbook Committee works with office staff to create a beautiful, memorable yearbook. The committee helps with collecting photos, selecting a theme, designing pages, and finalizing the finished product.

Annual international festival

This annual fall event is not only a great way to celebrate the amount of diversity at our school, but a wonderful opportunity for families, new and old, to meet and look forward to a new school year. Chesterfield Montessori School invites families to bring a side dish that is culturally significant to them to share with the CMS community.

Room parents

Each classroom is assigned a “Room Parent” who works with the Lead Guide to plan activities for the class, be an occasional helper, send items in for treats and parties, and build connections with existing and incoming families.

DEI work and partnerships

The parent Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is designed to ensure that we fulfill Dr. Montessori’s vision of preventing adult biases from impeding the children’s development. DEI work at CMS is ongoing. Our role as Montessori educators is to empower the children to think for themselves, and to cultivate a community where all are seen and celebrated, regardless of their country of origin, race, language, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status or (to the extent we can serve the children’s needs) ability. This work also helps us cultivate a workplace that attracts the best staff from a variety of backgrounds. Every family and child is welcome, as long as they show respect for others and share our commitment to authentic Montessori education.
