Although we are only a few weeks into the school year, we’ve already had quite a few birthday celebrations. In fact, one CMS student shares a birthday with Dr. Maria Montessori, and his birthday was celebrated on our very first day of school this year!
Most parents do all the planning for their child’s birthday but, at Chesterfield Montessori, we like to involve the children. At each level, students help to plan a simple celebration that is appropriate for their developmental stage.
Toddlers are just learning about community. They celebrate birthdays at school with their parents, teachers and peers. Toddlers all work together to make homemade muffins. After everyone sings “Happy Birthday,” the birthday child gets a hug from each member of her community and the class sits down to eat the muffins together. Afterwards, Toddlers bring muffins around the school to share with the staff. Ms. Jana works with them on “Grace and Courtesy” lessons, so each snack is shared with proper manners. They are very proud of their hard work!
Check in tomorrow to see how Primary students celebrate.
